Some of our most beloved peshtemals — including the Carmen — are woven from a carefully balanced blend of 60% Aegean cotton and 40% bamboo. This is not a compromise between two materials. It is a deliberate combination that amplifies the best qualities of each, producing a textile that is softer, more sustainable, and more functional than either fibre alone.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on earth, reaching maturity in three to five years without irrigation, pesticides, or replanting. When processed into textile fibre, bamboo produces a yarn of exceptional fineness — often compared in feel to cashmere or silk. The resulting fabric has a natural drape and luminosity that cotton alone cannot match. Combined with the strength and absorbency of long-staple Aegean cotton, our bamboo blend peshtemals offer a sensory experience that has to be felt to be understood.

Natural Antibacterial Properties

Bamboo fibre contains a natural antimicrobial agent called 'bamboo kun' — a bio-agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi within the fabric. For bath textiles that are repeatedly exposed to moisture, this property is genuinely valuable. Our bamboo-cotton blend peshtemals resist odour naturally, staying fresher between washes and reducing the frequency of laundering needed. Less washing means less water, less energy, and a longer life for your textile.

Temperature Regulation

Bamboo fibre is naturally thermally regulating — it wicks moisture away from the skin while maintaining a comfortable temperature in both warm and cool conditions. This makes our bamboo-cotton blend peshtemals ideal for use at the beach, by the pool, or after a sauna. They cool you down in summer and provide a gentle warmth in cooler months — a versatility that a standard terry towel simply cannot offer.

A Lower Environmental Footprint

Compared to a 100% cotton textile of equivalent weight, our bamboo-cotton blend requires significantly less water to produce. Bamboo cultivation uses up to 30% less water than cotton farming, requires no pesticides, and actively sequesters carbon as it grows. By blending bamboo with our organic Aegean cotton, we reduce the environmental impact of each textile without compromising on the quality and durability our customers expect.

Care Guide for Bamboo-Cotton Blends

To preserve the qualities of your bamboo-cotton peshtemal, wash at 30–40°C on a gentle cycle. Avoid fabric softeners — they coat the fibres and reduce absorbency over time. Tumble dry on low or air dry flat. Like all our textiles, your bamboo-cotton peshtemal will soften and improve with every wash.
